Welcome to the Winter edition of the ‘Halton’s
Heritage Newsletter’ from Halton Heritage Partnership (HHP). This time of year seems a good time to look back at what we’ve achieved since the start of the project in September 2014 and also to tell you about our exciting plans for 2016.
Sandymoor is a residential area located to the east of Runcorn in the borough of Halton (Liverpool City Region). Recent activity on Sandymoor has seen the construction of a new free school, construction of new road infrastructure and two new housing developments start on site.
Aim of Consultation
HCA is at a very early stage of determining the most appropriate form of development for the Local Centre and Primary School site. In order to best guide the most appropriate form of development HCA has taken advice from architects developers and agents specialising in the local centre market.
The result of these early discussions has been some very outline plans showing the likely scale of development.
The aim of the consultation was to find out the initial views from local residents to help shape a more detailed development brief that HCA will take out to the market to seek developer interest in the summer of 2016.
Date of Initial Community Consultation
The initial public consultation on the development of the Sandymoor Local Centre was held on 20th January at Sandymoor Free School between 2pm and 7pm on a drop in basis.

We’d love to see you!
As part of our work on WW1, we aim to tell the stories of all the men from the parish who went to war. Most came home. Others didn’t. But they all had families here and we want to tell their stories too.
Currently we know the names of 195 men who went to war. So, there are a lot of stories to tell. Maybe you would like to ‘adopt’ one of the soldiers, research his story and then share it with the community. It might be someone who lived in the house where you live now. It may be a relative or someone from a family you know. It may simply be a man whose story we haven’t begun to look at yet.
Search the genealogy websites for personal details from censuses and birth, marriage and death records. Look for military records – you may be lucky and find enlistment papers, wills, medal cards, medical information, details of battles on the front, burial records. Search through the local newspapers of the time for more snippets of information – there may be photographs. Talk to your neighbours and find out what they know. Visit the relevant military museum. Build as big a picture as possible.
Assemble all the information and prepare it for display, upload it onto our website, fill in the soldier’s details on the ‘Lives of the First World war’ site managed by the Imperial War Museum.
Do as little or as much as you want. But you don’t have to do it by yourself – we’re here to help. We can pay your expenses too.

The closures will be in place after the morning traffic peak (i.e. after 09:30) and are likely to be approximately 3 hours in duration. The closures will only affect traffic entering the roundabout and not traffic bound for Sandymoor.
A signed diversion route will be provided.

In the near future there will be funding available for this project and we, along with Halton Borough Council, are working together as part of the consultation process. As part of the process, we are asking residents if they have any views and comments regarding the project being implemented within the community, to send these to the parish council, by emailing the clerk:
